Pickup truck might be linked to disappearance of bicyclist
Police seeking information about truck seen in church lot the day Behrman disappeared

Bloomington police and the FBI are seeking information about a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck
whose driver may know something about Jill Behrman's May 31 abduction.
A blue flier inserted in the St. Paul's Catholic Center church bulletin this past weekend said a truck of
that description was seen in the church parking lot Saturday, June 3, just before the 5:30 p.m. Mass.
That same day, a portable radio and headset similar to one 19-year-old Behrman was known to wear
on long bike rides was found in St. Paul's parking lot. The radio was in working order when it was
found, according to Bloomington Police Department detective Rick Helms.
The flier asked anyone with information to call city police or the FBI.
Bloomington FBI agent Gary Dunn, who's been working on the case for months, said a person told
police about seeing the truck in the church lot.
"I don't think any undue significance should be attached to that," he said. "We don't want to
discourage anyone from coming forward with information about other vehicles because we've given
the description of this one. All we're trying to do is determine if anyone recalls seeing anything."
Dunn said investigators have ruled out some suspects, while others still are being looked at as
possibly being involved. "Some may be stronger possibilities than others. We're looking at some people
and will continue looking at them until they are eliminated," he said.
During the course of the investigation, Dunn said, about a dozen people questioned by police have
been arrested on charges unrelated to the Behrman case.
"They aren't connected per se directly to the disappearance of Jill Behrman, but as we go along we
come up with people who have violated the law. Some were probation violations, possession of
handguns by felons, selling guns or drug violations."
He said it's not unusual for other crimes to pop up during such investigations. "When you shake the
tree pretty hard, apples will fall," he said. "We've done that. And a few apples fell."
One of the arrests was of a 24-year-old man with a lengthy criminal record and convictions for rape
and battery. He had been released from prison this spring and was arrested by the FBI in late July.
Dunn would only say that the man was picked up for a parole violation. He is still being held in jail,
awaiting a parole board hearing, according to Don Todd, a spokesman for the Indiana Department of
Correction.
"We don't want to give false hope, but we don't want to seem discouraged, because we are not,"
Dunn said. "I firmly believe we are progressing. And we will continue to investigate until it is solved."
He said police have talked to "literally thousands of people" as they work to determine what
happened to Behrman. She left her family's southeast-side Bloomington home about 9 a.m.
Wednesday, May 31. She hasn't been seen since.
The day she disappeared, a jogger discovered Behrman's $1,200 Cannondale bicycle dumped in a
hayfield along Maple Grove Road, about 10 miles from where police believe she was abducted.
Police said the bike was not damaged and said it did not appear to have been involved in a wreck.
But Helms said police did note something unusual about the bike, although he would not say what.
John Smith, owner of Bikesmith's in Bloomington, sold the bicycle to Jill Behrman and her father, who
split the cost. Smith said he saw the bike after it was recovered and noticed something "not quite
right" about its appearance. He would not elaborate.
"I observed things I think will help identify a vehicle involved if one is found," Smith said. "There are
things about the bike that hopefully could help bring about a resolution to the case."

Your right, but that is usually all we have to go on. Most usually we see a poster-flyer with photo,
DOB, city, state, a case number, brief of where the child/person was last seen and a number to call,
NO updates and seldom an age enhanced photo.
The Indiana University web site, in regard to Jill Behrman has 100% more to work with than most
parents of missing children.

I was mainly referring the the condition of the
bike.
VPD sure jumped to correct media misinformation.
To bad BPD didn't perform like that.
I tried to copy that press release, but don't
know why I couldn't. At least we have the link.

Must be such a minute difference that was noticed coupled with top-notch investigators.
I was referring to the NCMEC and other database of Missing Children. We the public, never know
about conditions of bikes or personal possessions of the missing child. Mikelle Biggs, Mesa, AZ had a
bike at the scene and we wouldn't have known if the media hadn't written.
Sometimes can't copy press releases, apparently configured that way. I didn't try but will next time.

Police release sketch of suspect

Bloomington police have released a composite sketch of a man they say followed a woman out of the
Bigfoot Food Store in Ellettsville.
Police say the incident had several similarities to an attempted abduction that happened at the store
June 13. In both incidents the suspect is described as a white male in his thirties with a muscular
build, driving a black pickup truck with a black camper shell.
The most recent incident happened Aug. 10 about 10:30 p.m., said Capt. Bill Parker of the
Bloomington police. Ellettsville police initially investigated the incident, Parker said, but Bloomington
police and the FBI became involved because of the "potential connection," to the case of missing
Indiana University student Jill Behrman.
Police have no information to positively link the incidents to the Behrman disappearance, he said. Nor
do they have any information that proves the events are not linked, he said.
In the most recent case, a woman reported that she entered the Bigfoot store about 10:30 p.m. and
that after she paid for her purchases, a male patron followed her out.
He asked if she was a nurse and if she worked at Bloomington Hospital, Parker said. He then began
following her more closely, so the woman began to run. The man started running too, Parker said, but
stopped following the woman when another car entered the lot.
Parker said he did not think that the man knew the woman.
"I think he was just looking for a way to accost her," he said
The woman said he had light brown, close-cropped hair and fresh stitches above his left eye, Parker
said.
In the June incident, an 18-year-old Ellettsville woman reported she was walking south in an alley
that runs behind the Bigfoot about 10:30 p.m. when she passed the passenger side of a black Ford
pickup truck. The truck's male occupant grabbed her right arm and tried to pull her into the truck's
open window. The woman used her left arm to wrench herself free of his grip, said officer Jeff
Thomas.
No words were exchanged in the altercation, but the woman suffered scrapes and bruises on her arm.
In the most recent incident, the man did not touch the woman, Parker said.

August 30 Bloomington Police Department Press Release
The police investigators working on the abduction of Jill Behrman are seeking to identify the man who
accosted a woman at the Big Foot convenience store in Ellettsville at the corner of State Road 46
and Sale Street on August 10th. He came at the woman while speaking with her, then chased her a
short distance. This may have been the same man who attempted to abduct another woman at the
same location in early June.
The man is white, of muscular build, light brown cropped hair, in his 30's, and has an apparent
laceration on the left side of his forehead which on August 10th had stitches. Present on the parking
lot at the time was a black pickup truck with a camper shell. His description is similar to that of the
suspect in the June abduction attempt, except for the prominent injury with stitches. The vehicle
description is also similar to that of the vehicle in the earlier case.

ladybug,i´we been studying this case but havn´t found out much yet,but i think that somebody was
spying on jill behind trees the day she vanished,it´s a man with glasses or sunglasses.
jill stopped the bike because she had problem with her leg as i saw her take her shoe off and then
this man behind the trees.
do this make any sence to you???

Regarding Jill Behrman I believe she was on a bicycle ride when she disappeared. It was in the
morning. Is there anything else you can tell us about the man with the glasses?

no mikie i havn´t more now about this case but i´we also added something at kristin smart,zachary
bernh.xiona fairchild and stephanie condon(could you make astrology for her please)i´we also sent

Behrman family to join others in remembering missing daughter

Not knowing whether their daughter is dead or alive, Eric and Marilyn Behrman will light candles
tonight in remembrance of Jill, who disappeared six months ago.
Eric Behrman will be on a business trip in Chicago. His wife will be in Bloomington at First United
Methodist Church, where a candle will be lit.
The worldwide candle-lighting event is in memory of children who have died. Marilyn Behrman learned
of it from friend Jane Suhr, whose 20-year-old daughter Jenny died Dec. 29.
Jill Behrman and Jenny Suhr played softball together "way back when," Marilyn Behrman said. "Jane
told me she would light a candle not only for Jenny, but for Jill, too."
Police suspect that Jill Behrman, who was 19 when she disappeared on a morning bike ride May 31,
was abducted and possibly killed. No one has been charged in the case, and police continue to follow
leads.
Meanwhile, the missing girl's family members try to go on with their lives, hoping Jill will return to
them.
"It's difficult, because this event applies to us and then it doesn't," Marilyn Behrman said.
"Jill will be with us in spirit no matter where she is, and I think she will understand that we have not
given up hope," she said.
Since Jill's disappearance, her parents have lit a candle on their front porch each night to remember
their daughter.
If they are out of town, they arrange for friends and neighbors to light the wick.
Every Sunday, a candle on the altar at their church is lit for her, too.
"Jill is out there somewhere, and we want to put a light out to her," her mother said.
