Missing endangered - Cecilia Zhang

Cecilia Zhang remains missing, although the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) canceled the Amber Alert late Tuesday morning.

According to Constable Mike Hayles of the Toronto Police Communications division, the OPP canceled the alert because they felt it had done its job by alerting everyone to the fact the Cecilia was missing, and that media coverage was extensive.

So, while the official provincewide alert has been canceled, Cecilia remains missing, and CodeAmber.org will continue its efforts at the request of the Toronto Police Dept.

Cecilia was apparently abducted through her bedroom window in Toronto Ontario Canada early Monday morning October 20.

She is a Chinese female, 9 Yrs., 4'11", 70 lbs. with shoulder length black hair with blond highlights and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing her night clothes.

Police have not released any suspect or vehicle information at this time.

Cecilia's family increases reward for abducted girl

TORONTO - The parents of a girl kidnapped three months ago from her Toronto home say they're willing to remortgage their house to pay for a tip leading to her safe return.

Cecilia Zhang, 9, was taken from her bed in the middle of the night.

Police aren't certain what the motive was, but they now doubt it was money. No ransom demands have been made.

"This particular investigation right now is that of a classic mystery," said Toronto police Sgt. Jim Muscat. Since Cecilia's disappearance in October, investigators have received more than 2,000 calls. But they have no fresh leads, he said.

Until Thursday, the reward was $165,000. But several large donations totalling $100,000 were withdrawn at midnight Wednesday, as the Chinese New Year began.

Officials say those donations had always been pegged to expire Jan. 22 – largely as a way to encourage people to come forward with information as soon as possible.

Right now, about $65,000 remains in a bank account ready to be paid to tipsters. But on Thursday, the girl's father was handing out new posters offering $200,000. Raymond Zhang said he's willing to refinance his mortgage to pay for the new reward himself.

Elizabeth Smart was taken from her bed - she was found 9 months later on March 13, 2003.

It happens more than people realize.

Danielle Van Dam was taken from her bedroom.

Nicole Timmons, age 10, abducted from her bedroom August 20, allegedly by a family friend and former baby-sitter. Recovered safely later that day.

All one has to do is check the Amber Alert page to find many children taken from their own homes.
