"A Clown's Smile"

The more I look at what was identified as a red heart on the palm of JonBenet's hand, the more it looks like a clown's smile. Does anyone else see that?

I've really no idea. I saw an image of it once and didn't have any idea then either.
I guess kids do stuff like that and perhaps its unrelated to the crime, but I tend to think it has some significance if nothing else than her ordeal would have caused perspiration and washed away a good deal of the ink. It might therefore be thought to have been applied more recently than the early afternoon before the dinner party.

I wonder if there has been an attempt to try to match the red ink on JonBenet's hand and the red ink used to circle John's photo on the old newspaper article?

I don't know - but it is an interesting question.

Also - it seems no one knows where the pen or pens or marker or markers ended up. I have never heard that they found it(or them.)

If she drew on herself and no one noticed it all afternoon and evening, ... well, lets face it, JonBenet's room was probably the neatest one in the house. If a marker was there, they would have found it. The basement was cluttered, but JonBenet put the note from Santa in the waste basket.

I can't tell what the heck it is. I once thought she probably wrote on herself as children will do. But, I read of a case recently where the offender did write on his victim, so I don't know. The red ink on the business article makes me wonder also.

Also, I remember when my kids were going through the phase of writing on themselves and I always noticed it. Mostly because I didn't want them doing it. Perhaps the Ramseys were far more laid back, but John Ramsey said he never noticed JonBenét doing that. I find it hard to believe she never did, though.

Its a behavior pattern that would be highly variable, more often noticed by mothers who want the child to look presentable than by fathers who just want the kid to be quiet. I would think that any such writing would be noticeable when they were going out to a fairly formal event as opposed to some afternoon at the park. However there is no way to really know for sure.

I've often wondered about that article. It was in a fairly obscure business publication and it was two years old. So it is either extremely relevant or it is meaningless and came to the attention of the BPD solely because it appeared to have similar red coloring.

If we can't agree on what it depicts, we are hardly going to agree on its significance or who drew it and when they drew it.

Would someone who had so "decorated" the crime with his rambling and overly lengthy ransom note also decorate the corpse? Sure. Did he? Beats me!

Not to mention, if the offender did draw it, certainly it would be more legible?

This is one of those things we won't know until an arrest, if ever. The offender may never answer questions.

OEJ, I'm not certain I understand your thinking in that if the intruder drew the image on JonBenet's hand it would be more legible. I think he drew it on her hand when she was still alive, as part of their interaction, and during the time in which JonBenet was being tortured, her palms sweat and the image became a bit distorted.

Possible, but how can we know?

I think it is unlikely but not impossible that some drawing was on her hand all afternon and evening but simply went unnoticed.
This is one of the very minor clues. Some see a heart some see a clown. Some see a dead end.

It would be interesting to see what Daphne White had to say to the cops.

I have often wondered if she said she and JonBenét drew that heart - - why? Because the cops never seemed excited about it...
